The Cherokee XJ had the command trac or selec trac systems. The Grand Cherokee from 1993-1998 had command trac, selec trac, or quadra-trac. 231, 242, or the 249. The Grand Cherokee from 1999-2004 had the 247 transfer case they still had selec-trac as an option as well....but the 247 full time 4WD system was more common...and the 247 was used with the quadra-trac and quadra-drive systems...quadra-drive added front and rear limited slip differentials added. The old Cherokees prior to the XJ had a full time 4WD system or part time system, I can't remember which transfer cases they used but they weren't the 231 or 242 back then. The Cherokee XJ and Grand Cherokee ZJ were great in bad weather, and given the different 4wd options you could pick the one for your most use case scenario. The 242 Selec-Trac transfer case was found in the XJ (Cherokee), MJ (Comanchee Pickup), ZJ (1st Generation Grand Cherokee), WJ (2nd Generation Grand Cherokee), and the WK (1st Generation Liberty). The 2nd generation Liberty also had "Selec-Trac", however it was an electronic system, and didn't have part time mode, it was just auto and low range. The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator did have a "Selec-Trac" option as well for a while but it was an automatic engagement clutch based system rather than a mechanical open center differential found in the 242 transfer case. Given the age of these vehicles now, don't just look at the bezel on the shifter or by the shifter as a reference to what transfer case you have, if you aren't the original owner, there's a possibility the transfer case has been swapped out, its best to look at the tag on the back of the transfer case to verify what you have...The Cherokee transfer case swaps are between the 231 and 242 a lot of times, if people are modifying them for offroading and it had a 242 they'll typically swap it for a 231, just one less 4WD setting, and in offroading applications you wouldn't need the full time mode, so its just less parts to worry about failing. In the Grand Cherokees the 93-98 models that had the quadra-trac full time 4WD, the common failure was for the viscous coupler in the transfer case that controlled how much power was sent to the front axle. When that failed it failed in a locked state, which turned your full time 4WD system into a part time 4WD system which of course made turning sharp a problem...so many would swap to the 242 or occasionally the 231. In the 99-04 Grand Cherokees the common transfer case was the 247, it had a rear wheel drive bias to it more of a 2WD until slippage was detected type system, people again will typically swap the 231 or 242 transfer cases....with the 242 transfer case getting a replacement from a junk yard is common, and there are 2 versions of it, one being the standard 242, and it'll usually have a J after the 242 on the tag....if its found in a Durango or rarely in a Dakota you'll find a D after the 242....these designate that its a Jeep or Dodge and means nothing otherwise and the internals are the same. The 2nd version of the 242 will have HD behind the 242....this is the heavy duty version, which would be found in the Durango and rarely in the Dakota....the chain is 1/4 of an inch wider as well as the sprockets inside, other than that its the same. Then you get into the differences in input and output spline count depending on transmission being used and the application. I mention the Dakota because Selec-Trac was an option in it briefly, but I've never seen one on the road with the 242, I found one in a pick a part yard once and it was a late 90's model with the 318 V8.

I have a 97 XJ. I don't understand why some guys say their XJ runs a little over 200. Then some guys say 210-212 is fine. Mine runs at 210 to 220 going up long several mile long grades. I'm not comfortable with the line between running fine to warped or cracked head. I have a new engine, water pump, t-stat, lower hose, up- down stream 02 sensors, CAT and just about anything else that could effect a lean condition or temp. The radiator looks to be in good shape. And I'm getting a 20 degree drop from inlet to out let on the radiator. Is there no way to make these things run below 210?

Straight pipe sounds like shit and honestly removing the rear resonators with pretty much any solutions sounds like shit.. Loud for loudness sake is what teenagers do to their 500 dollar honda civics. If you want loud and tasteful for very little money have a shop chop off the mid mufflers and install dynomax bullets or vibrant 1792/1794s while leaving everything else stock and it will sound plenty loud and aggressive for like 300 bucks total with install. I had that done for mine and it sounds like an absolute beast while still being tasteful..

Nah something wasn't right AT ALL, not even a tiny bit. If it was stage 1 low torque tune, then MAYBE but stage 2 e30, that shit is around high 8's 60-130 and I can tell you now the scatpack aint doing those times (no disrespect). Reason for that is, I own a s3 8v and I'm currently on stage 2 e30 as well but with EQT tuning company and I put about 4 car lengths on a 300 SRT (6.4) basically same car as scatpack and he was on full E85 FBO's... Definitely sounds like I'm having a cry lol but I'm not, just doesn't make any sense

I find it odd that you never once mentioned insurance in your video. Are you trying to say by not saying that you own a car like this and don't have full coverage on it??. They would fix all this damage and pay the tow fee if you did. If you couldn't afford the insurance. You probably shouldn't have that car.
